This little pocket book whas manyl hints on planning intercultural health work and what to expect. There are useful link and  many real life cases to get you thinking...

The RGS Expedition Medicine Book

is a bible for anyone seriously considering being a medic for an expedition. It covers virtually all scenarios, from arctic to mountain, diving to dessert expeditions...a great book

The Oxford Handbook of Accident and Emergency Medicine

This is a great little book that will get you out of virtually all problems. It obviously caters for a more Western population, but in conjunction with the Oxford Handbooks of Medicine, Clinical Specialities and possibly tropical diseases, you should have your bases covered

 

Where there is no doctor

Over 3 million copies in 50 languages have been sold - a must for any medical missionaries. It covers all common diseases that are uncommon in the West. A simple but essential book - also think about getting "Where there is no Dentist"

 

Worldwide Volunteering

This book is a fantastic directory of over 950 organisations that provide over 300,000 placements a year in over 200 countries. A great place to start for a Gap year or if not yet qualified
